York Castle was the location of an infamous massacre of its Jewish inhabitants, in which at least 150 died (although some authorities put the figure as high as 500) in 1190. Attracting loyal audiences from around the country to see its veteran star, Berwick Kaler is the Theatre Royal, which produces annually and was established in 1744.
